Black Ops 4 Guide: How to get Open NAT on PS4 and Xbox One

A lousy connection is a no-go should you are playing a twitched game like Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. Read our guide about the best way best to get Open NAT on Black Ops 4.

Getting an Open NAT is important in games like Black Ops 4 rather than only does it make your relationship more stable and quicker to the game’s online servers but also help you link to more people. Moderate NAT users face other networking problems and have difficulty connecting to other players. While Strict NAT is a nightmare.

In short Open NAT and everybody can join while Strict and moderate NAT users will have trouble locating matches and receiving connections in Black Ops 4. Having Open NAT will help reduce packet loss and pings in cases, which is a plus.

I personally used to play on Moderate NAT all the time back in the Modern Warfare 2 days but when Black Ops 2 came out and I bought myself a modern Router, played around with a bit to get an Open NAT, I couldn’t believe the difference. I went from getting four bars once in a while to all the time, along with little to no lag every match. I can’t recommend players doing this enough as they’ll not only make the experience for themselves better but others in the lobby as well.

Note: The images I’ve attached in the article are from my Router, the settings you’re looking for may not be in the same place. For reference I’m using the ASUS RT-AC68U.

There’s a few methods to get Open NAT on your PS4 or Xbox One, we’ll cover the easiest one first. Before starting make sure you know what Local IP your console is using, as we’ll be configuring that, you can find that easily through your Router’s settings, from your Console’s Network settings options or from the Black Ops 4 settings menu.

Use UPnP

UPnP or Universal Plug and Play helps your devices automatically self-configure themselves for the best settings. This is usually an option on your Router, where you can enable or disable UPnP for each separate device.

Enabling UPnP for your console should get you Open NAT on Black Ops 4 but if for some reason it doesn’t you may not to forward your ports manually.

Portforwarding for Black Ops 4

Portforwarding may seem a bit difficult for those who haven’t ever opened or looked around in their router’s settings but it’s fairly simple, most routers also have dedicated pages to do that. Also note if you need to look for the port forwarding settings in your Router’s page, not Modem, although most newer Modems double as Routers. It all depends on your network’s configuration.

Note: If you don’t know about Port Forwarding, Follow the guide on What is Port Forwarding.

Follow the steps below to forward your ports for Black Ops 4:

  • Open a web browser and head over to your Router’s IP, it’s usually or similar, if you’re not sure just look on the backside of your Router
  • Enter the Username and Password to open the Settings
  • Open the Port Forwarding tab, you may have to look around a bit
  • Find the IP address of your console, there’s usually an option to find what local IP your console is using in your Router
  • Although the PC version should not have NAT problems since Windows usually take cares of all the forwarding usually unless the Firewall is blocking certain ports, I’ve listed them anyway, use the following ports:

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4- PC

  • TCP: 3074, 27014-27050
  • UDP: 3074,3478, 4379-4380, 27000-27031, 27036

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 – PS4

  • TCP: 1935, 3478-3480
  • UDP: 3074, 3478-3479

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 – Xbox One

  • TCP: 3074
  • UDP: 88, 500, 3074, 3544, 4500

Unblock Ports for Black Ops 4 Using VPN – Easy & Secure Way

If you aren’t much of a techie, setting up port forwarding manually can be a hassle. Moreover, there are security issues that arise with the opening of ports as well. Fortunately, there’s a way to kill two birds with one stone.

PureVPN’s Port Forwarding add-on makes it possible to use VPN and port forwarding at the same time!

With it, you can easily unblock or forward ports for Black Ops 4 or any other game in a matter of minutes whilst staying protected. Simply follow these steps:

  1. Get PureVPN’s Port Forwarding add-on
  2. Select “Block all ports but enable following”
  3. Specify the ports you want to forward
  4. Click “Apply Settings”
  5. Voila! The ports will now be open.

Alternatively you can also DMZ your console’s IP, which opens ALL ports coming to the console. This is easier than Port Forwarding and works in most cases, networking is complicated so you may want to try another method from these listed to see what works for you. Do note that you should only DMZ your PS4 or Xbox One, not PC or any other smart device.

If none of these tips worked then you need to contact your ISP as they probably blocked or restricted ports from their backend. This happens a lot especially with smaller ISPs or those in third world country where not many of their customers play games. Usually all you have to do is give them a call and explain the situation, the tech support should handle the rest, if they’re capable enough.

As a last test you can also try to connect your console directly into your Modem, if you’re still getting a Moderate or Strict NAT then your ISP is to blame.

Did any of these tips help you forward your ports to get an Open NAT in Black Ops 4? Let us know in the comments. Also free feel to ask any questions you may have on the topic and I’ll try my best to help.
