HUMANKIND’S FIRST DLC ADDS SIX NEW AFRICAN CULTURES, FIVE NEW WONDERS, AND MORE THIS MONTH

Historical 4X strategy game Humankind has today released its first DLC. The Cultures and Africa Pack is set to launch in the latter part of this month. It will add six new cultures to the existing culture pool.

The Humankind – Cultures of Africa Pack gives players access to a few new wonders and independent people to collaborate with or assimilate during playthroughs. It also provides new narrative events that shape their civilization.

Developer Amplitude Studio has shared some details about the game’s six most recent cultures and which in-game eras these belong to.

    • Era 1: Bantu (Expansionist), The Bantu expansion refers to a series of major migrations by an NTU-speaking original group from Central-West-Africa that crossed much of sub-Saharan Africa.

    • Garamantes (Agrarian): In the middle of the second century AD, Garamantes became a significant regional power. Their expansion and growth were based on an extensive and complex qanat irrigation system (known in Berber as foggaras), which supported large agricultural economies and populations.

    • Era 3 Swahili (Merchant): The rise in the Swahili coastal city-states can be partially attributed to their extensive participation in a trading system that crossed the Indian Ocean.

    • Era 4: Maasai, Agrarian: These are fierce pastoralists with a Nilotic language (rather than Swahili or Bantu). Maasai warrior status was achieved by killing a single lion using a spear.

    • Era 5: Ethiopians (Militarist). During the Scramble to Africa, Ethiopia and Liberia were two of the few nations that we could preserve their sovereignty from colonization by a European colonial power. Ethiopia resisted most colonial forces by incorporating the natural cliffs or ledges into their fortresses.

  • Nigerians (Agrarian), Era 6: Nigeria is a nation that unites many cultures under one government. It is one of West Africa’s most important producers due to its diverse terrain and abundant hydraulic resources.

The DLC grants you access to Lake Natron, Mount Kilimandjaro and Victoria Falls. Zuma Rock and The Great Mosque of Djenne wonders are also available.

Humankind-Cultures of Africa Pack will be available on PC starting January 20 at $8.99/8.99EUR/PS8.99, or the regional equivalent. Pre-orders are now available. You can save 10% off the base price.

Our review found that while the base game can’t quite match the Endless games’ blooming personality, its culture swapping mechanism provided plenty of flexibility and gameplay options, making it an excellent choice if you’re in search of a 4X game.
